Assessment Services

Our Goals

We aim to provide a comprehensive evidence-based assessment that endeavors to answer the questions raised by the family and to provide relief by offering realistic interventions that will assist the client to achieve their full potential.

Out of respect and consideration of the cost to families and their struggle in making the decision to initiate psychological assessment, we seek to provide a comprehensive assessment that will stand up to scrutiny by other interested parties (such as the school board). We also endeavour to provide meaningful recommendations, so that at the end of the assessment process the family has a clear idea of the client's strengths and weaknesses, and has an understanding of how to better collaborate with others involved in their education and development.

Our Process

A typical assessment may include the following elements:

  • Interviewing the parent(s) and the child / youth
  • Interviewing other relevant professionals (physician, teachers, etc.)
  • Reviewing previous reports
  • Observing the child / youth in an appropriate and relevant setting (e.g. classroom, home)
  • Completion of extensive psychoeducational testing, generally taking a total of between two and eight hours. Some of the aspects this testing may address include: intelligence, achievement, attention span, memory, executive function, motor skills, visuo-spatial abilities, problem solving, language skills and specific mental health issues (anxiety, depression etc.)
  • Report writing
  • Meet to discuss the results and intervention recommendations
